Clima tropical templado en las altas mesetas y ecuatorial húmedo en la costa. La temperatura disminuye con la altitud, por lo que el clima es más cálido en la costa de Tanzania que en sus mesetas. La estación lluviosa dura de marzo a abril con noches frescas y en ocasiones frías. También llueve en noviembre y a principio de diciembre en Tanzania. La estación seca comienza en mayo y termina en octubre. Las temperaturas más elevadas asoman entre diciembre y febrero.
